In February 2016, Mattel released three dolls for the feature film Batman v Superman - Dawn of Justice. After numerous animated adaptations, the film was the first live-action movie starring DC comic book heroes Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Henry Cavill played Superman, Ben Affleck played Batman, and Wonder Woman was cast along with Gal Gadot.
The Barbie-sized superheroes produced by Mattel have all three been given a "sculpted likeness" face mold and have been a hit.
Wonder Woman's first appearance alongside Batman and Superman was followed by other Wonder Woman-related films over the next few years. Each new movie came with different characters like dolls. There are now six versions of Wonder Woman Barbie with the face of Gal Gadot in the Collector's Edition, some of which differ only slightly in terms of equipment.
In addition to the Collector's Edition, DC Comics and Mattel also released an Action Figure Edition with more Wonder Woman dolls. The dolls are priced much lower than the Collector's Edition and are therefore of lower quality, and a different face mold is used.
